PEEB Cool aims to support 11 partner countries in hot climates across Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America to enhance energy efficiency in buildings and resilience to climate-related shocks. By addressing the urgent need to reduce emissions and adapt to rising temperatures, PEEB Cool facilitates the transformation of the building and construction sector through a combination of financing and policy support. The initiative offers an Investment Facility, implemented by AFD Group, providing financing and technical assistance for green building projects incorporating bioclimatic design and energy efficiency targets. PEEB Med, an initiative under the Programme for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (PEEB), aims to support seven countries in the Mediterranean region through technical assistance and finance. Given that buildings and construction contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, especially in the Mediterranean region, PEEB Med seeks to advance resilient and energy-efficient building design, construction, and operation. With funding of €30 million approved by the European Commission and a total budget of 460 million EUR, PEEB Med will provide technical project assistance and investment grants to cover the extra cost of energy efficiency measures, thereby facilitating the implementation of large-scale renovation and construction projects in the region. These projects will not only benefit millions of people directly but also contribute to avoiding 1 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent over 50 years. Regarding projects technical assistance:
• Project owners must send a support request letter to receive technical assistance to AFD country office in the Beneficiary
country
• AFD procures and supervises the technical assistance to support projects under identification and implementation
Concessional loans provided by GCF will be blended with loans from AFD group into one single Financing Agreement following an appraisal process with AFD group.
