Short Background of the Fund

The Porto Energy Hub, coordinated by the Porto Energy Agency as part of the Porto Energy ElevatoR (PEER) project, serves as a comprehensive one-stop shop for citizens and local entities. This initiative aims to renovate 3,000 homes and install 12MW of photovoltaic (PV) capacity, enhancing energy efficiency and integrating renewable energy in residential buildings. Key components include a centralized platform for information, financing options, and support for energy-efficient renovations and renewable energy installations, innovative funding solutions to make improvements accessible, and PV systems to lower energy costs and reliance on non-renewable sources. The project, expected to mobilize €27.2 million, will improve the energy performance and living conditions of about 25,700 vulnerable households in Porto, contributing to the city’s sustainability goals and reducing its carbon footprint. The Hub supports local economic development by involving local contractors and suppliers, engaging citizens in energy efficiency and renewable energy production, and promoting social inclusion and economic resilience. By demonstrating the potential of comprehensive renovation programs, the Porto Energy Hub serves as a model for other cities aiming to enhance energy performance and promote sustainable practices.
